Research

Our lab's research focuses on understanding environmental change by studying the causes and consequences of spatial variation in ecological processes.

Teaching

In 2012, Prof Cardille joined the McGill faculty, jointly appointed in the Department of Natural Resource Sciences and the McGill School of Environment. Between 2006 and 2012, I was an assistant and associate professor in the Department de geographie de l'Universite de Montreal.

Students

Our lab involves students at undergraduate and graduate degree levels, who focus their diverse skill sets towards both independent and collaborative projects.

In my Computational Landscape Ecology laboratory, we are developing a diversified and innovative research program that focuses on answering environmental questions across large areas using a wide variety of approaches
including GIS, remote sensing, image interpretation, and cutting-edge techniques in computer science.

In the lab, we are currently doing projects in several scientific disciplines, including:

(1)
developing and applying a new algorithm (Bayesian Updating of Land Cover, BULC) for updating land-cover classifications capable of ingesting data from multiple sensors of varying quality and specifications;

(2)
the development and interpretation of a forest connectivity dataset for all of Canada;

(3) the extraction of lake carbon content from satellite imagery of northern-hemisphere lakes.

Service

While at the Université de Montréal, I worked to enlarge the French-speaking community's access to the rapidly evolving world of GIS. Working with students, I developed a wide range of online educational materials for public use.
